Independence Canoe/Kayak Launch

This is a river launch area for vessels that can be carried, such as canoes, kayaks and small row boats. There is no formal ramp nor dock. There is no charge for use of the area, accept the campground, described below. The adjacent parking lot is day use only. This launch area is part of Independence, Oregon Riverview Park and located next to downtown. Multiple restaurants are in the local area. There is also a boater campground, just above and to the west of the launch area. The map below shows the local area. An Open Street Map, linked here, allows interactive touring of the area.

An alternative complete ramp is available a mile downstream. A wiki page is in the works.

Location

GPS Location: 44.853218, -123.181854

From the water, it is fairly obvious that you are at Independence, and if you follow the westerly shore you will be here. By road, C Street goes around a circle, past the new hotel and if you follow it downstream there is a parking lot. This puts you within carry distance of the river.

Launch Area

This a basic beach type of carry-boat launch area. It is on the river with moving water. There is no tie-up facility.

Campground

The campground is just above the launch area. There is vegetation between the campground and the downtown, but expect some noise at night. The sign below has most of the details (sign as of Spring 2026).

Local Water

A good starting spot to learn about this river is the Willamette Riverkeeper. There are a series of guide books available from the Riverkeeper.
