This is a small boat launch, but no side dock. It is perfect for hand-carry boats, kayaks, canoes and paddle boards. There is a minimal ramp, so boats can be launched from a small trailer. This is across Hwy 101 from Ona Beach State Park. Beaver Creek and Ona Beach are both operated by Oregon State Parks as part of Brian Booth State Park. A day use fee is charged. The daily permit is good for parking the entire day at any state park that requires a day-use parking permit. You can leave one day-use fee park and travel to another. The hours are listed as “Day Use Only, 6AM to 10 PM.” The parking lot can fill up on a summer weekend.

The ramp is just off of Hwy 101, about 8 miles south of Newport, OR. Upper Beaver Creek Road heads east, just across from Ona Beach. Immediately after turning onto that road, the launch area and parking lot is on your right. This first map shows the big picture.

The next map shows the details of the area. Be aware that traffic on Hwy 101 is traveling fast and crossing on foot would be very dangerous.

Description

The ramp may not be very deep (anybody have a number?). Normally the height of water at the ramp stays in a tight range. Normally, it is a fresh water moving pool and not tidal. The winter flow of the creek can inevitably raise the level, however. Additionally, a major winter storm may push water into the ramp area, as it is not far to the ocean.

The picture below is looking from the ramp towards the Hwy 101 bridge. In most times, kayaks can go under the bridge and explore the park.

And, next is a look upstream towards the several miles of creek and estuary. This is a great area to explore.

Water Character

Brian Booth State Park is the name of the large area that includes what was Ona Beach State Park and Beaver Creek, along with a Visitor's Center on a rise up North Beaver Creek Road and miles of hiking trails down South Beaver Creek. This is not all fully developed, but is a major recreational resource. We won't try to cover all of this here, but one could spend a long and busy day at Brian Booth and not see everything.

One area that should get its own water access article is the hand-carry boat launch, just off of North Beaver Creek Road and down the hill from the Visitor's Center. There is no ramp at that site.
